Biewer Yorkie

In the mid 1980s in Germany, in the town of Hunsruck, the first baby Biewer Yorkshire terriers were born to a family of German breeders called Werner and Gertrude Biewer. The parents were the world-champion Yorkshire terriers Darling von Friedheck and Fru-Fru von Friedheck.

After 20 years of working with Yorkshire terriers, the appearance of yorkies with white spots was a great mystery to the Biewer family, which forced them to start investigating a possible recessive gene in their dog-breeding line. The result of this research was the creation of the magnificent Biewer yorkie.

In March 1988, Werner Biewer first took his dogs into the show ring in the city of Wiesbaden, he called them black-and-white yorkies.

The phrase “à la Pom Pon”, is sometimes added to the name of the breed Biewer Yorkie, which, translated from French, means "ball of yarn".
